The Municipality belongs administively to Faro District, distributed in 4 parishes, With a population of 22,975 (2011) inhabitants, it has an area of 88.25 square kilometers and a population density of 260.3 people per square kilometer. Lagoa is currently one of the most important tourist counties in the Algarve.
