Laviano is a small town of 1,496 inhabitants in the Italian province of Salerno. Laviano was one of the towns most seriously affected by the 1980 earthquake in Irpinia. The dead were 303 (one-fifth of the population), the total building almost completely destroyed. The Gold Medal for Civil Merit was awarded for the work of the social and buildings reconstruction.A community that aims mainly on young people born after the earthquake. It is establishing and consolidating a fair zootechnical activities, with production of meat and excellent quality of "cheese". It is implanted and strengthened a metalworking company that, for the equipment adopted and the precision machining making, has no equal in the Central South Italy. This Municipality has won a great challenge: to transform the village, which hosted the population in the post-quake, in a comfortable and "anti-stress" village. Nowadays the municipality staff manages over a hundred wooden houses to be allocated for tourism.
